What does it mean to follow a Systemic Approach?
Systemic therapy concentrates on the system not the dysfunctioning individual. Thus, the person is considered in the context of where the problem occurs ie. in families, at school, at work… So the focus is on transactional patterns, alliances, boundaries, roles and subsystems… Causality is viewed in circular rather than linear terms.
Methodology
Systemic therapy uses a variety of practical and creative tools to uncover patterns, build understanding and support change including:
- Trans-generational genograms to explore family history and recurring patterns
- Emotional bank accounts to evaluate relationships
- Invisible loyalties to identify unconscious family influences
- Sibling rivalries and resources to recognize both challenges and resources
- Reframing to change the meaning of a behavior without changing the facts
- Enactment and role playing to explore relationship patterns in real time
- Family sculpting using non-verbal techniques to visualize relationships
- Circular questioning to better understand interactions and connections
Length of treatment
The number of sessions is determined during the initial assessment interview and depends on your goals and individual circumstances.
Sessions last 50 minutes and cost 100 Sfr.
As a member of the Federation of Swiss Psychologists, counseling sessions are generally reimbursed through complementary health plans. I recommend checking coverage directly with your insurer.
Therapy provides support during periods of transition, challenge and growth. As new insights, skills and patterns are integrated, individuals and families often find a greater sense of wellbeing which leads to resilience, a new equilibrium and the end of counseling.
